I absolutely love acrylic furniture and accents, so I’m over the moon about this flash sale on 55 Downing Street! They’ve got some amazing pieces that I haven’t see before, and the prices are really good too.  While it’s not inexpensive, $1800 is  a great price for this fantastic backless couch.

{Flash Sale} Lamps & Light Fixtures to Up the Ambiance: Rue La-La

I love Rue La-La. Yes, it’s definitely a hit or miss site in regard to prices, but this lighting sale is amazing. I’d love to put this chandelier in my dining room, but at $600 I’ll just admire it from afar.  There are some other great fixtures, though, under $200 and some cool floor lamps and table lamps as well.

Before + After: Living Room Lighting

Blog-Post-Living room- Lighting

In my last post, I told y’all about my intense hunt to find new lighting… And I finally get to reveal our first update!

I’ve really gotten into this mid-mod style over the past four years or so,  but I still like for our home to feel modern and cozy.  Full-out retro is a little much for me, but I love mixing in mid-century pieces in a more subtle way.

Our living room is huge! I think it’s like 25 feet long by 19 feet wide, and the ceilings are super, super tall.  It had an ugly ceiling fan when we bought it, and that thing had to go! The challenge was that it needed a big fixture in there to fill the space.

Before photo - Living room Lighting

I’ve been obsessed with the 1954 Sputnik replica lights, and was searching everywhere for one big enough and cheap enough.  We needed something that was at least 32″ in diameter, and the lighting replicas I was finding were only about 12″-16″, and starting at about $399.  My budget was $250. Yikes.

I had found one on Joss and Main for only $150, so I snagged it up and figured I’d put it in the dining room and do something different in the living room.  So I searched and searched for a new idea.

Eventually, I was looking on Amazon for about the tenth time, and found it! This big, chrome beauty! At only $280, I packaged up the other one and shipped it back to Joss and Main.  Mind you, we spent another hundred bucks on light bulbs (WTF.)

It’s a chrome fixture with twenty bulbs, measuring 36-inches in diameter. It’s perfect!

BEfore-After

I am so happy with the way it looks–it’s truly perfect. It’s such a great feeling when your vision becomes a reality.

Favorite Five: Fabulous Light Fixtures For Less

Fab-Five--Light-Fixtures-for-less

One of the easiest, quickest ways to make a dramatic change in your new home is to install new light fixtures.  You’d seriously be surprised at how immediately the entire feel of the room can change!

Nearly every room in my house has an old, generic ceiling fan… even the kitchen and dining room!  The lights that are not ceiling fans are super old and ugly–including the exterior lights–so all of them will be replaced at some point.

Since we’ll need to buy so many, I’ve been searching high and low for some really good deals.  Light fixtures are one of those things that are higher priced than they probably should be, and I happen to also be drawn to things that are enormously out of my budget! It never fails–I’ll finally find exactly what I have envisioned and it’ll be $2,600 instead of $250.  Grrrr.

So, I’ve already been doing all of this leg work, and it just wouldn’t be right if I didn’t share my findings!  Here are my Favorite Five places to find fabulous light fixtures at discounted prices:

1. Overstock.com

It might sound like an obvious one, but time after time I’ve had such good luck on Overstock! It’s really hit or miss, but if you’re patient and willing to look through the hundred of items, you’re likely to find your little gem at a ridiculous price.

2. Eurostylelighting.com

This is a new one I found! I’ve been on a mission to find some super cool mid-mod fixtures for both the dining and living rooms, and the selection on this site was unbeatable.  Mind you, they do definitely have some pricier items, Buuuut… I kept surfing the site and ended up getting our exterior fixtures at a lower price than  I had been seeing elsewhere.

3. Jossandmain.com

Have I mentioned yet how much I love Joss & Main? It’s similar to One King’s Lane, but I find the items to be priced better–OKL tends to be a little bit higher end. Plus, I think that the daily shops are a bit more repetitive than on Joss & Main.  When they have their lighting shops, you can find fixtures for half-off!

4. Amazon.com

Okay, so another no-brainer, but if you haven’t checked it out already, do it!  As always, Amazon is so great at doing a lot of the leg work for you, and pulling in great priced items from around the net.  I ended up finding the perfect light here for my living room, at 60% off retail!

5.  Dotandbo.com

I love everything about this website, and the lighting is no exception! They have such cool mid-century-modern pieces, and at reasonable prices.  If you’re looking for a statement piece, this is where to get it.
